How a Duel 8 Ball match works
Create a lobby from the 8 Ball tile in Duel Arena, or join one. Before the match you agree on the stake and two options: who breaks (at random or a chosen player) and whether Line Assist is on. Line Assist shows an aiming line and helps newer players; switching it off rewards players who can judge angles on their own.
To shoot, you drag back from the cue ball: the further you pull, the harder the shot. Turns alternate until one player has potted their whole group and then the 8 ball.
Duel 8 Ball rules
- Open table after the break. Your group, solids or stripes, is decided by the first ball you legally pot, not by the break.
- Fouls give ball in hand. If you scratch, miss every ball or hit the wrong group first, your opponent may place the cue ball anywhere.
- The 8 ball comes last. Pot your whole group first, then the 8.
- Potting the 8 too early loses the match straight away.
Tips to win more 8 Ball matches
- Plan three balls ahead. Good players pot one ball while leaving the cue ball in position for the next. Soft shots usually leave easier positions than hard ones.
- Break up clusters early, while you still have other balls to fall back on. A cluster left for the end of the rack is where most games are lost.
- Use ball in hand wisely. Place the cue ball for a shot that also opens up the next one, not just for the easiest pot.
- Play safe when you have no good shot. Hiding the cue ball behind your own balls can force your opponent into a foul.
- Practise without Line Assist in the free mode if you plan to play opponents who switch it off.
Is Duel 8 Ball worth playing for money?
Pool rewards skill more than almost any other Arena game: the better player wins most racks, and there is no rake to eat into winnings. That cuts both ways. Spend time in the free practice mode, start with small stakes and watch a few high-stakes matches from the Ongoing Matches list before you take on strangers for real money.
