How a Duel Connect match works
You and your opponent take turns dropping discs into the columns of an upright board. Each disc falls to the lowest free space. Line up the target number of discs horizontally, vertically or diagonally to win.
In the lobby you choose the target (connect 4, 5 or 6), the board size, up to 11 columns by 8 rows, and a chess clock between 3+0 and 5+3. The first number is the minutes each player has for the whole game; the second is the seconds added after every move.
Duel Connect rules
- Turn-based play. Players alternate, one disc per move.
- Line up to win. The first player with the target number of discs in a row wins the match.
- The clock is strict. If you run out of time, you lose, even from a winning position.
- Draws return the stakes. If the match ends without a winner, both players get their stake back.
Strategy tips for Connect
- Control the center. Central columns are part of the most possible lines, so take them early.
- Build double threats. Two winning spots at once cannot both be blocked.
- Think about the row below. Never fill a space that lets your opponent drop a disc into a winning spot right above it.
- Adjust to the board. On bigger boards and with connect 5 or 6, games last longer and planning ahead matters more.
- Manage your clock. In a 3+0 game, a quick good move beats a perfect move that runs you out of time.
Is Duel Connect worth playing?
If you enjoy strategy games, Connect is one of the most tactical modes in the Arena. Classic Connect 4 is a solved game, so strong players know its key patterns; larger boards and longer lines make it harder to rely on memorized openings. Try different settings in practice mode first.
Pros and cons of playing Connect on Duel
- ✅ Deep strategy with several board sizes and line lengths
- ✅ Chess clocks keep matches short
- ✅ Draws return the stakes
- ❌ Strong players know the classic Connect 4 patterns
- ❌ Short clocks punish slow thinkers
